Limpopo
Many streams rise in the cool indigenous forest and grasslands of the Limpopo Province escarpment and tumble into the warmth of the lowveld to form tributaries of the mighty Oliphants River.
This peaceful and unhurried corner of the province is known as the Valley of the Olifants (Valley of the Elephant) and the contrasts in climate, scenery and landscapes are both striking and dramatic.
Those in search of history will find many places of archaeological significance as well as sites associated with the lives and exploits of the early hunters, traders, explorers, prospectors and settlers.
The natural and wildlife heritage and the valley is rich and varied and the northern section of the Kruger National Park together with the many privately owned conservation areas, will satisfy the needs of all nature lovers.
Throughout the region there are accommodation facilities to suit all tastes and pockets and the many stalls and picturesque tea gardens offer an abundance of sub-tropical fruits and delicious home made fare.
A mere 2 hours drive from Johannesburg is the geographical wonder of the Waterberg Mountain range. Within the central core is a vast basin dissected by numerous rivers and streams that boasts a profusion of nature and game reserves. Home to the big five, the endangered black rhino and an abundance of other wildlife, this malaria-free area is also home to over 300 bird species. There are many rock-art and geological sites to visit. Guided bush tours, day and night game drives, cattle mustering, fishing, hunting and hiking as well as outstanding horse-riding safaris are some of the activities offered.
